Judge revokes Chris Brown probation in Rihanna assault case

 

A judge has revoked Chris Brown's probation but allowed him to remain free for now after the R&B singer travelled without approval for a concert and failed to complete community service on time.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James R Brandlin allowed Brown to remain free until a 20 March hearing when the judge will receive an update from probation officials.

Brown was ordered by probation officials in December not to leave Los Angeles County without permission. The Grammy-winning singer performed in San Jose recently without obtaining permission to travel.

Attorney Mark Geragos told Brandlin that his office incorrectly advised Brown he didn't need permission.

Brown has been on probation for his 2009 attack on pop singer Rihanna, then his girlfriend.

Brown was supposed to complete 1 000 hours of community labour by the end of January, but he still has roughly 200 hours to complete. The judge said Brown had been making steady progress on that. Brown is required to perform manual work such as roadside cleanup or graffiti removal.

Indonesia Mourns AirAsia Crash As Recovery Operation Continues

A massive recovery operation is underway in waters off Borneo to recover bodies and debris from the missing AirAsia plane. AirAsia announced that flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore, with 162 people on board, lost contact with air traffic control at 07:24 a.m. local time on December 28.

1st, 2nd January declared public holidays

 

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared 1st and 2nd January, 2015 as public holidays to mark Eid el Maloud, Daily Nigeria Info has reported.

Speaking of behalf of Government, Minister of Interior Abba Moro made the announcement and urged all Nigerians, particularly Muslim faithfuls, to pray for peace and unity within the country.

In addition, Moro urged all citizens to engage to violent-free activities in the lead-up to the 2015 general elections and to support President Goodluck Jonathan in his agenda to develop the country.

Moro has wished a peaceful celebration to all.

President Jonathan's salary revealed

 

Over the last 4 years, President Goodluck Jonathan has pocketed over N4.323 billion as salary, 360nobs.com reports.

In addition, he has paid N626.422 million to the country in taxes.

According to documentation from the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the years in question include 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The document has disclosed that the President earns a yearly salary of N14, 410, 290.48.

A clearance, received and stamped by the Legal Services Department at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), confirms that President Jonathan has paid all taxes within the allocated times.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, who filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Lamar Odom, in December 2013 and ended her on-again, off-again relationship with rapper French Montana earlier this month, admits she's still adjusting to being single and doesn't want to rush into another romance.

The reality TV beauty, who celebrated her 30th birthday last June, said: "By the time I hit that age I thought I would have kids and still be married. But because that's not the way it went, you can't sit in a ball and cry.

I had a husband, so I think there's an adjustment period, which I don't want to rush. Dating is so weird."
But Khloé hopes to find long-lasting love again.

She told the February issue of British Cosmopolitan magazine: "I don't crave sex. I talked about it more openly when I was married because it's more comfortable. 120 died in road crashes during Christmas — FRSC

No fewer than 120 persons were killed in road crashes across the country   between December 19 and 28, 2014, the Federal Road Safety Corps said on Monday.

The figure, according to the corps, translates to 42 percent reduction when compared to 2013 figure of 208 within the same period.

Cameroon launches air strikes against Nigerian extremists

 

Cameroon's government launched its first ever air strikes against Nigerian Islamic extremists to dislodge about 1,000 fighters who had seized a Cameroonian military base, a statement said Monday.

Fighters from Nigeria's home-grown Boko Haram extremist group attacked five villages in Cameroon, near its northern border with Nigeria, over three days before they over-ran the military base in the same area Sunday, the government said.

President Jonathan on private visit to UK

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday afternoon left Abuja for a brief private visit to the United Kingdom, his office said in a statement.

The president, according to the statement, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, was accompanied on the trip by some of his principal staff and personal aides.

The statement said he is expected back in Abuja on Monday ahead of official engagements at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday including scheduled audiences with groups from Delta and Lagos States.

Monkey brings electrocuted friend back to life

 

New Delhi - Onlookers at a train station in northern India watched in awe as a monkey brought his fellow monkey companion back to life after being electrocuted on the rail tracks.

The unconscious monkey fell down between the tracks, apparently after touching high-tension wires at the train station in the northern Indian city of Kanpur.

His companion came to the rescue and was captured on camera lifting the friend's motionless body, shaking it, dipping it into a mud puddle and biting its head and skin - until the monkey came to after a few minutes.

The first monkey, completely covered in mud, opened its eyes and began moving again.

Crowds of travellers on Sunday watched in amazement, filming and snapping pictures as the animal saved his friend.
